Younger generations’ sex lives are changing as they redefine intimacy

Forget traditional porn, Gen Z is doing things differently these days, including listening to porn instead of watching it.

The trend of audio porn started during the lockdown and has now been embraced by young women, offering a full body experience that unleashes their imagination as they tune into physical pleasure.

Anna Richards Founder and CEO of Frolicme.com has explained, ‘The rapid interest in audio porn has allowed us to continue our natural interest in sex for excitement.’

She explained how people are hardwired to want to consume sexual content, but it’s how we access it that changes; with the brain being the largest sex organ.

Anna Richards, founder and CEO of Frolicme.com, explained that for tech-savvy Generation Z, it’s just a few clicks away and available through their choice of media – a “safe haven” for “sexual exploration” (stock image)

We’ve already heard that this generation and the millennials before them are less sexually active than young people 20 years ago, with celibacy among 25 to 34 year olds doubling since 2002.

Anna told FEMAIL that for tech-savvy Generation Z, it’s just a few clicks away and available through their choice of media.

She said: ‘Our smartphones in particular provide an easy and very accessible way to listen to such non-visual options of images, sending fanciful visions directly to our brains without anyone being the wiser.

“Suddenly there’s no need for NSFW when only our minds are fed with fantastic filth.”

Audio porn really boomed during the years of the Covid pandemic as more of us sought solace and escape in our technology.

Women-founded start-ups like Dipsea, a five- to 20-minute short story app launched during lockdown as a way for women to focus on their bodies through guided sexual audio.

Anna explained that in the first six weeks after the initial lockdown in March 2020, she saw a 48 percent increase in the listenership of her site’s Frolicme audio porn stories, with 61 percent being female who enjoyed the steamy stories.

As humans, we are naturally interested in sex because we are biologically programmed to be instinctively aroused by sex.

Dipsea’s co-founder Gina Gutierrez, based in California, shared Fashion how “sexuality” should fall into the same wellness category as “movement and meditation” to stimulate the senses.

“Audio erotica gives you the opportunity to feel something more sensual,” she said.

How do Gen Z find love? Get up in morning dates, gym sessions, and craft classes

Research from Badoo revealed that ‘dawn dating’ has become the latest trend in the dating scene.

Their singleton survey found that half of their users have had or are looking to start a morning date.

Nearly half of the daters surveyed said they enjoy “dawn dating” because there is no expectation to drink alcohol.

Nearly a third said they date first so they don’t have to sacrifice their social life for a date, or cancel evening plans with friends.

Research found that three-quarters are open to more lunch dates, sober dates, activities such as yoga, pottery, cooking or dance classes, and even gym dates, in addition to the usual food and drink you’d expect from a first date.

“For some people it’s great [to] having the ability to switch off ‘boss brain’ and become a sensual person again.’

Anna dug into this further, saying, “So consumption for sexual content and porn is and always will be high.

“But it’s what we consume and how is what changes and audio porn uses our largest sex organ, the brain.

“The rapid interest in audio porn has allowed us to continue our natural interest in sex for arousal.

“It removes the negative issues surrounding mass-produced extreme free porn, the kind of porn that is more of a turn-off than a turn-on.

“Issues commonly raised as consent, exploitation, and violence are uncommon in audio porn, giving the discreet listener a safe haven to begin their own sexual exploration.”

This is desirable for a more conscious generation passionate about paving the way for a more emotionally aligned way of life.

Categories include hookups, couples, rough, romantic, off-limits, queer, straight and solo – designed for users to ‘slow down’ and ‘go with the flow’.

The user-centric solo category allows people to log out of their work life and shift into a sensual zone.

In a 10-minute Dipsea solo session entitled ‘Self Touch: Glow Up’, a female narrator leads the user through their body and to tap into unexplored areas.

Gina reveals how the session will focus on the hands and “get you back in touch with your body” to understand “what sensations feel good.”

“Masturbation can be like magic medicine, it releases endorphins and oxytocin – hormones that make you feel good and calm you down,” she explains.

During a warm-up exercise, a narrator instructs the user to “rub your palms together to make heat” before moving the palms down the arms to touch the fingertips.

She explains, “Touch the thumb of each hand over the pads of your fingertips as if you were sprinkling salt. Pick a finger you want to use on yourself to get started.”

The narrator continues, “Imagine those hands aren’t yours. Who are they? Take a moment to conjure up this fantasy persona.”

Anna explained: ‘Listening and experiencing what we find exciting helps us form our own understanding when it comes to using words or sounds to stimulate our loved ones.

“This understanding of how to talk intimately with our loved ones to be the catalyst at the right time is the foundation of great dirty talk.

Gen Z enjoy sex texting with their partner or partners much more, so erotic audio therefore has a much stronger appeal to be translated to their own personal connections.

“Whispered words of a sexually intimate nature in your lover’s ear can be like lighting the fuse during your sexual encounters and literally throwing them over the edge.”

Generation Z who are so well aligned with technology offerings are more likely to connect through their media and partners.

They’ve created an easygoing culture of hookups and sexual exploration, finding a lot just by swiping their screen.

Apps abound and technological influence has created instant intimate connections that offer a different style of sexual stimulation.

Anna reiterated, “The impact of Covid and our removal from physical intimacy led to much more interaction through technology and social platforms that offered other forms of personal erotic imagery and content to arouse.”

Speaking to FEMAIL about the benefits of erotic audio, Jessica Leoni, sex and relationship expert at dating site IllicitEncounters.com, explained how the discreet format “lets the imagination run wild.”

Jessica said: ‘Erotic audiobook apps have exploded in popularity in recent years as more and more people turn to their phones to find new ways to explore their sexuality.

“They are a fantastic way to unlock your desires and many of them are beautifully put together and so much more erotic than visual erotica or porn because they let your imagination run wild.

“You can listen to it on the train on your way to work and have the time of your life without anyone noticing what makes you happy.”
