‘We had a little argument… nothing to kidnap yourself over’: Ex-boyfriend of Alabama liar Carlee Russell says he STILL doesn’t know why she faked her own abduction – and reveals they had ‘fun’ trip to NYC before she vanished
The ex-boyfriend of Alabama kidnap faker Carlee Russell has said he still doesn’t know why she pretended to be abducted.
Russell has been charged with two misdemeanor charges of filing a false report. She now faces up to two years in jail and $12,000 in fines.
Thomar Latrell Simmons – who initially claimed Russell was kidnapped after being lured by a toddler wandering on the interstate – appeared on the ‘205 Boyz’ podcast to talk about the entire controversy.
Simmons appeared baffled by the situation and when pressed on what was going on before Russell left, said they had just returned from New York City on vacation and had only had a minor squabble.
‘We hadn’t a little argument but it wasn’t nothing to kidnap yourself over,’ Simmons told host Marcus Moody.

The podcast, which appears to be a joint venture between Moody and Simmons that was posted earlier this week, is a 25-minute chat about Russell’s disappearance.
Simmons denies during the episode that the podcast is an attempt to chase clout and gain attention in the wake of the media firestorm facing his ex-girlfriend.
He adds that he is yet to reach out to Russell since the entire ordeal and says she hasn’t tried to speak to him either.
‘We haven’t had no contact with each other,’ he said and he doesn’t seem eager to open the lines of communication anytime soon.
‘If you really want to tell me the truth, you could’ve told me. You could’ve told me before all this happened. You had time to tell me.’
Simmons and Russell had just been on a Big Apple vacation with Russell’s family and had a great time, he claims.
‘We were having fun,’ he said. ‘We were going and taking tours to the Statue of Liberty, Brooklyn Bridge.’ He’s still grasping for answers over the entire hoax.

‘I’m confused, like what happened? What made you do this? I don’t understand,’ Simmons said.
He says he’s still got to look out for his own mental well being at this time.
‘I’ve just been going day by day, every day just been getting better and better. Especially with my friends and family, I’m thankful for,’ he said.
Simmons did say that he was ‘still healing, still coping’ in the last month or so but that he’s still going to work.
There were rumors she was trying to win back the attention of her Simmons, from whom she’d recently split, when she staged the hoax, which he did not address but said that accusations she ran off because of him were bogus.
Simmons frantically appealed for information when she was missing then quickly distanced himself from her when her story started to crumble.
He adds that he is not ‘looking for love’ at this point in time.
‘Trying to get back to my normal life but it’s never going to be normal for me. I can’t go through Birmingham without anyone knowing me.’
Simmons (left), Carlee’s ex-boyfriend, initially revealed that she was ‘fighting for her life for 48 hours’ after vanishing from the Alabama interstate 459 highway
Thomar and Carlee are pictured on a July 4 trip to New York City – just a week before she vanished off the side of an interstate in Alabama. He posted on social media thanking people for their efforts to find her
Simmons shared loving photos of the couple together after she’d initially been found and mentioned that he was falsely accused of being involved in her disappearance – but he ‘kept his faith’ and continued the desperate search for his girlfriend.
The ex-boyfriend described his ‘nonstop’ hunt for her – and said he was not giving up ‘until I saw her face again.’
‘I don’t even know how to start off this post but to only say thank you to my lord & savior Jesus Christ for saving my girlfriend’s life!
‘Also, thank you to everyone who shared a picture, came out to the Hoover Met to help us with the search parties, & who went & proceeded to tell other people about Carlee to bring more awareness to her story.
‘I have been going nonstop since I received the call that she was missing on Thursday night. I know she would’ve done the same for me, so I wasn’t going to give up until I saw her face again!
‘I was straight tunnel vision, even when I would get on social media on my downtime & see some of the false allegations & assumptions about me having something to do with her abduction would have me discouraged at times, but I didn’t give up & kept my faith!
‘I just want to thank all of my family, friends, former teammates, & church members who called or texted me just to let me know that they’re praying & here for me; you guys don’t know how much that meant to me!
‘All I asked from everyone right now is to be respectful of Carlee’s situation.
‘She was literally fighting for her life for 48 hours, so until she’s physically & mentally stable again she is not able to give any updates or whereabouts on her kidnapper at this very moment.
‘I also want to thank the people on social media who has been understanding & respectful about what she’s been through in these past few days.
‘Once again I can’t thank you guys enough for helping us bring Carlee home! God bless you all.’
Thomar Simmons posted images and videos of the pair together after she was found
Russell, 25, was driving home from work in Hoover, Alabama, on July 13 when she called 911 claiming she’d seen a toddler in a diaper on the side of the road.
She then called her brother’s girlfriend, claiming the same sight, and screamed down the phone.
Russell wasn’t seen again for two days, then turned up at her parents’ house with a cut lip and a tall tale about having been snatched by a man with orange hair who held her captive for two days before she managed to somehow escape.
Russell was reported missing on July 13, after making a bizarre phone call to 911 in which she claimed she found a toddler on the side of a highway
Hoover Police then revealed the spa therapist’s incriminating Google search history that included the terms ‘do you have to pay for an Amber alert’ and research on the movie Taken.
A sheepish Russell went quiet, then admitted via her attorney to making the entire story up.
On July 28, Hoover Police Chief Nick Derzis announced criminal charges against her.
Now, there are also questions over whether she will have to repay the $100,000 that was spent in the search for her.
Russell’s parents are yet to comment on her arrest and she is yet to explain why she lied.
In a statement, her attorney said: ‘My client has given me permission to make the following statement on her behalf:
‘There was no kidnapping on July 13, 2023. My client did not see a baby on the side of the road. My client did not leave the Hoover area when she was identified as a missing person. My client did not have any help in this incident, but this was a single act done by herself.
‘My client was not with anyone or at any hotel during the time she was missing.
‘My client apologizes for her actions to the community, the volunteers who were searching for her, to the Hoover Police Department and other agencies, as well as to her friends and family.
‘We ask for your prayers for Carlee as she addresses her issues and intends to move understanding that she made a mistake.
‘Carlee again asks for your forgiveness and prayers.’
