More than 15,000 Hyundai Venue cars have been recalled due to a serious technical failure.

In a statement, the federal government’s Department of Transportation said the 2020 to 2022 model year of the car had a fault with the seat belt pretensioner inflator, a component that automatically tightens the seat belts in the event of an accident.

“Due to a manufacturing issue, the seat belt pretensioner inflator may rupture when deployed in the event of an accident,” the department said.
