A Los Angeles couple were surprised to discover a mama bear and her two cubs taking a dip in their swimming pool to cool down.

Jon and Karen Von Gunten weren’t the only ones benefitting from the amenities of their $1.2 million California house this summer.

The homeowners caught a family of three bears in the backyard pool of their gorgeous home in Tujunga, California.

The video began with just the mama bear relaxing in the pool as her cubs stood on the very edge of the water where they built up the courage to get in.

One after the other the smaller bears took the brave jump into the water and one begins to paddle and splash around while the other quickly tries to make its escape and climb out.

In the video one of the homeowners said: ‘I’m just glad I wasn’t in the pool’.

The more anxious bear overcame its fear and remained in the water where it playfully swiped at its mother while the other calmly crawled out.

After cooling off in the large luxurious swimming pool all three of the bears were ready to get out and shake out their fur to dry off.

The Von Gunten couple said the bears came out of Rowley Canyon which connects to the Angeles Nation Forest and begins just several houses away from where their property is located.

Bear sightings have become more frequent in the hot summer months in Southern California.

Earlier in September a homeowner in Sierra Madre, California, came home Tuesday after a night out to find her kitchen ransacked, and paw prints leading to the fridge

The juvenile bear had eaten mangoes, avocado and guava jam, she told KTLA – adding that she heard noises in her garage, so she called police.

‘It really just tried a little bit of everything – a little bit of grain, jars of things,’ she said.

‘It was opening everything, sweet things. Sweet treats – something we all would do.’

The bears consume around 20,000 calories a day, said Mackenzie Rich, with the wildlife department – and their noses are seven times stronger than those of a bloodhound.

The same bear was spotted on Wednesday evening taking a dip in a neighbor’s pool around 6:30pm.

The animal can be seen dipping a toe in, then plunging into the water. Instead of climbing out, it does a lap of the pool.

In July another Southern California homeowner caught a bear and her baby in the act of taking a dip in her pool to cool off.

A video clip showed a baby bear splashing around in the water before the mother bear comes into the frame and enjoys a playful exchange with her cub.

The two are seen playfighting on the side of the pool before the mother bear dips her front paws in.
