Scarlette Douglas said it was “more important” for her to send her A Place In The Sun co-star Jonnie Irwin’s on Lorraine a “direct message” after hearing the terminal cancer diagnosis.

The I’m A Celeb contestant, 35, hit back at trolls, telling ITV viewers on Monday that she ‘doesn’t have to’ post on social media for her boyfriend to know she’s thinking about him.

The presenter said how the matter is “personal” and “private” and the way she chooses to talk to her co-star does not need to be shared on Twitter.

She said: “This world – now everything is based on social media and for me it was more important for me to message him directly to let him know I’m thinking about him and if he needs anything I’m here.

“I don’t have to put that all over social media, I don’t have to Tweet about it and Instagram about it”

“It’s personal, it’s more private and for me that’s the best way to deal with it.”

The beauty was starring in I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here when Jonnie broke the news that he had terminal cancer.

Scarlette added: ‘Coming out and hearing what I heard was really hard’.

Last month, Jonnie, host of Escape To The Country, revealed his terminal cancer diagnosis in a touching magazine interview.

He said, “I don’t know how long I have left, but I’m trying to stay positive, and my attitude is that I’m living with cancer, not dying from it.”

The TV presenter said he wanted to continue making memories and capturing moments with his wife, Jessica, 40, with whom he shares son Rex, and two-year-old twins, Rafa and Cormac.
