Ron DeSantis filed official paperwork Wednesday afternoon to run for president in 2024.

The much-anticipated run has now begun and is likely to see a ruthless battle between Florida Governor and former President Donald Trump as the two frontrunners battle for the Republican nomination.

DeSantis is expected to have a conversation on Twitter with its CEO Elon Musk later Wednesday evening after months of speculation that he would join.

Sources confirmed to DailyMail.com that Florida’s governor will hold a Twitter Spaces with the social media giant’s CEO on Wednesday at 6 p.m. ET to confirm that he is in the race to mount a showdown with Donald Trump.

At 44, he is one of the younger candidates to bid for the Oval Office and is more than three decades younger than his main rivals President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump.

The highly anticipated start to the Republican White House campaign will be moderated by David Sacks, a tech entrepreneur close to Musk.

Musk confirmed Tuesday that he will interview DeSantis at the live audio-only event, adding that the governor “has quite an announcement to make,” but has no plans to endorse any particular candidate at this time.
