Martin Scorsese’s highly anticipated new epic film, Killers Of The Flower Moon, made its world premiere at the 76th Cannes Film Festival in Cannes, France over the weekend.

The 3-hour, 26-minute drama ended with a nine-minute standing ovation from the audience, said to be the longest of the festival which began on May 16, according to Variety.

The western crime drama is the latest pairing with the acclaimed director for both robert deniro and Leonardo DiCaprio.

In fact, this marks the 11th film De Niro has collaborated on with Scorsese and the seventh for DiCaprio in their distinguished careers.

Before the debut screening, De Niro showed a burst of enthusiasm and waved to the dozens of fans lined up along a barrier, then joined Scorsese and his co-stars, including Lily Gladstone, Jesse Plemons and Cara Jade Myers, for a photo op against a scenic backdrop at the Cannes marina.

De Niro, 79, shook hands and greeted several people who seemed delighted to meet the legendary actor.

The New York City native, who just welcomed a daughter with girlfriend Tiffany Chen in April, looked fit dressed in black pants with a gray blazer over a tan shirt.

The Raging Bull star proceeded to pose for the sea of ​​photographers gathered for the photo shoot, who were lined up in front of and behind the two-time Academy Award winner.

Who doesn’t like all the spotlights on himself during photo shoots, the longtime lead actor would join his Killers Of The Flower Moon colleagues for a few more rounds of photos.

At one point, the cast and some behind-the-scenes folks lined up with Scorsese for one last hurray for the photographers.

Co-written by Scorsese and Eric Roth, Flowers Of The Moon tells the true story of the “reign of terror” that left two dozen Native Americans dead.

The $200 million Apple-backed film, based on a 2017 book of the same name by David Grann, is Scorsese’s first attempt at the Western genre.

Like the best-selling book, the script depicts the serial murder of members of the oil-rich Osage Nation in 1920s Oklahoma.

The subsequent investigation into the murders, led by J. Edgar Hoover, then 29, and former Texas Ranger Tom White, helped launch Hoover’s FBI.

Principal photography began in April 2021, with filming taking place in Osage County and Washington County, namely Pawhuska, Fairfax, and Bartlesville, all in Oklahoma.

DiCaprio plays Ernest Burkhart, the weak-willed nephew of William Hale (Robert De Niro), a local businessman who wants the Osage oil rights.

After a six-month shoot, the Oscar winner was quoted as bragging that he thinks this is his best work yet, according to the film’s costume designer, Jacqueline West, she told Deadline.

Along with the aforementioned stars, the stellar cast also includes recent Academy Award winner Brendan Fraser, John Lithgow, Tantoo Cardinal, Jillian Dion, William Belleau, Scott Shepherd, among many others.

Killers Of The Flower Moon is scheduled to open in select theaters on October 6, before opening in the United States on October 20.

It is also slated to have an unspecified streaming release on Apple TV+.

With Killers Of The Flower Moon (2023) being De Niro’s eleventh Scorsese film, the others include Mean Streets (1973), Taxi Driver (1976), New York New York (1977), Raging Bull (1980), The King of Comedy (1983), Goodfellas (1990), Cape Fear (1991), Casino (1995), The Audition (2015), The Irishman (2019).

As for DiCaprio, his seven collaborations with the famed filmmaker also include Gangs Of New York (2002), The Aviator (2004), The Departed (2006), Shutter Island (2010), The Wolf Of Wall Street (2013) and The Audition. (2016).
