PSV Eindhoven they are set to make an offer for Everton centre-back Jarrad Branthwaite before the January transfer window closes.

The 20-year-old, who cost Everton just £1m from Carlisle, impressed the Dutch club’s staff while on loan and sporting director Marcel Brands wants the move to be permanent.

The 6ft 5in left-sided defender also attracted the attention of scouts from Roma and Manchester City during his time with PSV playing in the Dutch league and in Europe.

Everton’s trade status may mean the offer is rejected for now while the new manager, expected to be Sean Dyche, assesses his team.

However, Everton need funds to sign new players and bolster their dwindling chances of staying.

Branthwaite is also out of contract in the summer so it might make sense to sell him, rather than risk losing him on a free transfer.

The defender has made 17 appearances in all competitions for PSV and has found the net once during that time.

A far cry from last season, when the English centre-back made just four Premier League starts last season, as recently sacked manager Frank Lampard opted for experience in search of top-flight survival.

Middlesbrough, Sheffield United, Huddersfield Town, Blackpool, Cardiff and Sunderland were reported to be interested in taking the youngster on loan, before PSV competed for the deal in July.

The defender was on loan for the second half of the 2020-21 season in the Championship with Blackburn Rovers.
