The Pentagon is preparing for a visit by US speaker Kevin McCarthy to Taiwan later this year.
Punchbowl News reported the development on Monday, citing an official directly involved in the talks.
Biden administration officials expect McCarthy to visit Taiwan sometime in the spring, the report said.
After McCarthy’s election to the presidency earlier this month, Republicans plan to make countering China’s power a key pillar of their new House majority.

Earlier in the run-up to last year’s midterm elections, McCarthy said he would visit Taiwan if he became president.
He had supported his predecessor Nancy Pelosi’s historic trip to the country when she visited last year, which had heightened tensions between Beijing and Washington.
The former Speaker of the House of Representatives flew to Taipei in August 2022 along with five other members of Congress on a US Air Force jet.
