The agency’s headquarters are located at 1000 Colonial Farm Rd, McLean, Virginia, about a mile from the preschool.
Officers were called to Dolly Madison Preschool around 11 a.m. Tuesday after a community member spotted a strange man on the property.
While speaking to the man, police said he made statements about having guns in his car, which was on the school grounds.
Officers searched the car and found two weapons, an AK-47 and a handgun, along with magazines and ammunition.
The man, Eric Sandow, was arrested and charged with possession of a firearm on school property.
He is currently being held without bond at the Adult Detention Center.
Sandow was not armed when officers found him, police said. He made no threats and the guns never left the vehicle.
It does not appear that he acted in conjunction with anyone else, police said.

“We are grateful to the member of the community who did the right thing and called us,” said a Fairfax County sergeant.
“We want to remind our community to report suspicious activity, as you never know what you can avoid by calling.”
This isn’t Sandow’s first run-in with the law.
Sandow was arrested for domestic violence in 2014 when he assaulted his father, who decided not to prosecute.
