Louisiana sheriff’s deputy has been sentenced to 100 YEARS in prison for child crimes

A former Louisiana sheriff’s deputy and SWAT commander will spend the rest of his life in prison as he was sentenced to 100 years on Tuesday after pleading guilty to sex crimes murder.

In one of 150 heinous crimes, former Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office Deputy Dennis Perkins, 46, ejaculated semen into a cake his teacher’s wife made for her students at Westside Junior High School.

His wife, Cynthia, 37, was sentenced to 41 years in prison in February for pleading guilty to her role in her husband’s crimes, which included producing child pornography. As part of her sentencing, Cynthia agreed to testify against her husband.

Perkins, who was first arrested in 2019, told reporters as he left court in Livingston Parish, “I just want to make this statement. Jesus Christ has forgiven me. And I am grateful for that. And I hope and pray that everyone affected by this will also find forgiveness and healing through Jesus Christ.”

During Tuesday’s hearing, Perkins cried more than once, reports WAFB.

Dennis and Cynthia Perkins were first arrested in October 2019 when authorities found a photo of the couple naked with a minor following a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.

At the hearing, one of his victims made a statement saying, “You are absolutely not worthy of my time. Instead of protecting, you chose abuse. Have a nice life in prison.’

The victim also expressed hope that the former deputy sheriff lives out the rest of his days in fear.

Perkins entered pleas for one charge of second-degree rape, two charges of sexual battery of a child, one charge of video voyeurism, two charges of production of child pornography involving children under the age of 13, and one charge of mixing harmful substances.

The plea deal was falsified so that young victims in the case would not have to testify. Prosecutors said they met with each victim to get approval to proceed with the plea deal.

In a lawsuit filed last May, the parents of a student alleged that Cynthia showed the girl inappropriate images and that she also photographed and videotaped the minor.

All four lawsuits, filed separately, also accused the Livingston Parish School Board of negligence.

At the time of Cynthia’s sentencing, Louisiana Attorney General Jeff Landry said, “Today, Cynthia Perkins admitted her crimes and pleaded guilty in court. not only did he waive any right to appeal and try to avoid conviction, but she also saved the victims from reliving her horrific crimes during this particular trial.”

The plea agreement required Cynthia to agree to certain facts in the case, such as helping her husband sexually assault a minor, assisting him in filming a minor bathing, and lacing desserts with his semen before serving them to school-aged children. children gave. .

Cynthia apologized for the sentencing at length to the victims, her friends and family.

“I also want to apologize to my three children. I haven’t spoken to them in three years. I love them and I miss them, and I’m sorry,” Perkins said.

But one of her children, born during her first marriage, described her as a “terrible” and “manipulative” mother in a letter to the court.

“My life is so much better without you,” the letter read.

In May, another woman involved in the case, Melanie Curtin, was sentenced to life in prison after Dennis and Cynthia Perkins were found to be in possession of a video of Curtin raping a minor in their home.

During the Curtin trial, the victim said, “When I saw parts of the video, I literally wanted to die.”

The victim told the court she had been drinking alcohol with Perkins and Curtin when the attack happened. Curtin and Perkins had previously been in a relationship together.
