He may have been unable to attend his granddaughter Princess Lilibet’s christening in California earlier this month.
But King Charles was delighted to share in the joy of another family.
The 74-year-old monarch was in attendance at a Cotswolds church last Sunday when he discovered six-month-old Alice Elizabeth Windell being baptized.
Her delighted parents, Christopher and Rebecca, happily posed for photos with their daughter after the “beautiful and totally unexpected surprise.”
The photographer present called it an ‘event to talk about for the rest of her life’.

As king, he is now the Supreme Governor of the Church of England, but Charles has long been a regular Sunday worshipper and quietly attends a local church wherever he is in the country.
His youngest grandchild, Lilibet, one, was christened on March 3 in California at Harry and Meghan’s mansion in Montecito, the couple recently told People magazine.
Subsequently, journalists with close ties to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex claimed that they invited the King, the Queen’s consort and the Prince and Princess of Wales, but no one attended.
However, the British sovereign and his wife could never have flown to the US for such a private family event due to security and pressing state affairs.
William and Kate also no longer speak to the Sussexes following Harry’s repeated attacks on them and the royal family as part of their lucrative commercial media deals in the US.

It was reported that 20 to 30 guests attended, including Meghan’s mother, Doria Ragland, and billionaire entertainment mogul Tyler Perry, who lent the couple a house in Los Angeles when they first moved to the US.
They later asked him to be Lilibet’s godfather, Mr Perry revealed on their Netflix series last December, adding that he would only agree if he didn’t have to go to the UK. He flew to the event from his home in Atlanta on his private jet.
It was later reported that Harry’s aunts Lady Jane Fellowes and Lady Sarah McCorquodale, sisters of the late Princess Diana, were also in attendance.
