Spider season is upon us, and Brits can expect an invasion from the eight-legged creatures until October.
There are around 660 different species of spiders in the UK, and while most will never venture indoors, each autumn homeowners can expect a freight from house spiders.
Luckily, for the arachnophobes who can’t bare to look at the creatures, a TikToker has shared some simple methods you can use to repel them from your homes.
In a video, posted by cleaning business account Purdy and Figg, the TikToker showed three ways to prevent attack.

Sharing on the cleaning business account Purdyandfigg, the TikToker cleaned the entryways to her house with peppermint oil
Sharing to their 301,000 followers, the TikToker, known for her clever cleaning hacks, advised purchasing peppermint oil to dispel them.
While cleaning the inside of her windows with the oil, she explained: ‘My household are petrified of spiders so we always add peppermint oil to cotton wool and wipe over entry ways as they hate the smell.’
Her next trick was to keep on top of tidying, she said: ‘We always make sure we’re regularly decluttering storage areas to minimize areas for them to hide in and always keeping it clean.’
The TikToker’s final hack was to trim outdoor foliage, she said: ‘We trim back any vegetation near the perimeter of the house as spiders use them as pathways indoors.

Tips to keep spiders away from homes
According to experts at OnlineBedrooms.co.uk, these seven tricks should help deter spiders from your home.

- Peppermint oil on a cotton pad
The video has since raked in 15,000 views and has received hundreds of saves from fellow arachnophobes.
If the TikToker’s tricks haven’t worked to deter the creatures, experts at OnlineBedrooms.co.uk have revealed more ways to keep them away.
Interior expert Nic Shacklock said: ‘Spider mating season comes into full swing at the end of August through to September which means many of us could be facing an infestation.’
According to the experts, spraying white vinegar in dark corners, and sealing tiny cracks are some of the best ways to deter them from your homes
They urged people to get on top of this before spider eggs are laid which could lead to an infestation.
He added: ‘Spiders hate the smell of lavender and mint so it’s worth giving these scents a spritz around your home.’
For the terrified arachnophobes, Nic added: ‘It’s also important to seal up any holes in the home they could potentially crawl through.
‘Preventative measures like this are best for keeping these eight-legged insects out!’
