“After the studio told me to announce my return in October, ahead of their hire, this news isn’t the easiest, but such is life.
“The changing of the guard is something that happens. I respect that. James and Peter must build a universe.
“I wish them and everyone involved in the new universe the best of luck and happiness.”
The actor continued with “those who have stood by my side throughout the years,” adding, “we can grieve for a moment,” before delving into the future of the franchise.
He added: “But then we must remember… Superman is still here. Everything he stands for still exists, and the examples he gives us are still there!’
