Harry Potter video game Hogwarts Legacy sequel allegedly being developed after the original grossed more than $1 BILLION
Harry Potter fans may be able to satisfy their desire for more adventures in its wizard world following rumors that a sequel to the massively popular Hogwarts Legacy is in the works.
A social media post from a popular leaker and so-called ‘industry insider’ claims that a sequel to the game is already being developed.
The move to quickly come up with a sequel is a logical next step, as the original Hogwarts legacy was a hit with both fans and critics after its release in February of this year.
The game has so far earned over $1 billion as of May, Warner Bros. CEO David Zaslav announced on an earnings call.
Hogwarts legacy was released in the wake of the latest Fantastic Beasts film, The Secrets Of Dumbledore, being slammed by critics and earning just half of what the first film in the series grossed, while Harry Potter J. K. Rowling has continued to be embroiled in controversy after many fans and critics labeled her transphobic.

Harry Potter fans were excited about the possibility of a Hogwarts Legacy sequel following a tweet from the account @MyTimeToShineH.
The poster has previously revealed scoops, particularly in regards to Marvel movies, several of which have been shown to be accurate after the films were released.
‘Sources confirmed that a Hogwarts Legacy sequel is in the works,’ they tweeted, along with a publicity image for the game.
However, even if a Hogwarts Legacy game is in development, it could still be several years before fans will get to play it, as the original game entered the development stage in 2018, around five years before it would finally be released.
So far, there haven’t been any official announcements that a sequel is in the works, though it would be surprising if one wasn’t created based on the success of the original release.
It was designed to stand on its own without the iconic characters of Rowling’s Harry Potter books, including the title character and his best friends Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger (played in the blockbuster film series by Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint and Emma Watson, respectively).
The action was set in the 1800s, emphasizing how little the wizarding world had changed in over a century before Harry Potter became a student at Hogwarts.
The third-person role playing game took place at Hogwarts, the most prestigious of the wizarding schools in Rowling’s books.

Old school: The original Hogwarts Legacy takes place at the title school in the 1800s, more than a century before Harry Potter and his friends matriculated; Grint, Radcliffe and Watson seen in a publicity photo for Harry Potter And The Sorcerer’s Stone
Twists and turns: Players can explore the labyrinthine corridors of Hogwarts, the most prestigious of the wizarding schools in J. K. Rowling’s Harry Potter series
Young students are divided into four houses and learn the skills necessary to harness their magical abilities while staying as separate as possible from non-magical people, referred to as ‘muggles.’
Players could customize their characters — including their gender — and the game included a transgender character, which some fans and critics saw as a rebuke of Rowling’s alleged transphobia, though she has denied being transphobic.
Although the trans character’s inclusion was celebrated by some fans, others complained that her limited screen time and unimportance to the story meant that she was little more than an attempt to save face.
Some fans had urged gamers to boycott Hogwarts Legacy before its February release as criticism of the author, though it doesn’t appear to have harmed sales much.
According to Warner Bros. earnings call from May, the game has sold over 12 million copies.
The sales announcement came the same month that Hogwarts Legacy expanded to the Playstation 4 and Xbox one platforms, after initially being released on the PS5 and PCs.
The game will likely earn considerably more money starting November 14 of this year, when it will be released on the Nintendo Switch.
Hogwarts Legacy earned mostly positive reviews from critics, many of whom praised the labyrinthine design of Hogwarts and the detailed settings.
Mixed bag: Critics praised the design of Hogwarts and the surrounding world but criticized awkward and dated gameplay and uninspired battle sequences
More to come: There’s no official word on a sequel yet, but the game has another major release on November 14, when it will become available on the Nintendo Switch
However, reviewers’ feelings were cooler when it came to the gameplay, and several criticized how battles were conducted between wizards and other magical creatures.
It’s unclear what a sequel might be about, as much of Hogwarts appears to have already been revealed in the first entry.
Some critics complained about the ‘dated’ style and mechanics of the game, which began production around five years before it was finally released.
Gameplay scenes from its development were leaked all the way back in 2018, but a new addition to the series might be able to make it to market much faster, particularly without the delays imposed at the height of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
