Euphoria star Chloe Cherry is charged in alleged theft of $28 blouse in her native Pennsylvania

Euphoria star Chloe Cherry has been charged with shoplifting a $28 blouse from a store in her native Lancaster, Pennsylvania.

The 25-year-old actress, who also has a background in the adult film industry, was charged in connection with a December 27 incident that took place at the Building Character shopping complex in downtown Lancaster. LancasterOnline.com reported.

According to a criminal complaint, an employee of the retailer showed authorities surveillance footage showing Cherry, whose real name is Elise Jones, taking a Moda International blouse to a fitting room, and the blouse was not found in the dressing room afterwards.

Police said the employee told them that Cherry had used a credit card to pay for individual items of clothing, according to court documents, and that Cherry told officers she had taken the item and returned it to them.

Building Character owner Marty Hulse told the outlet that the blouse was taken from the Jenny & the Clowder store, which is located above most of the sellers.

Hulse told the outlet that the shopkeeper often catches shoplifters through the evidence they leave behind.

“When we find people shoplifting, we usually don’t find them red-handed,” Hulse told the outlet. “They take the label off and throw it somewhere. Then we see the tag, and we can find them on the camera and where it came from, and that’s exactly what happened.

“I know it sounds weird, but at the end of the day we’re all small businesses – you steal from your neighbors.”

The complex’s general manager, Joel Henry, told the outlet that with a surveillance system that has been updated in recent years, about one or two shoplifters are caught every month.

Hulse and Henry told the outlet that they didn’t know Cherry was an actress on an HBO show until her mother told police about it.

Authorities said Cherry has a previous shoplifting conviction on her record dating back to April 2015, the outlet reported.

That said a representative of Cherry, who plays the role of Faye in the popular HBO series TMZ that ‘there was confusion in December about a blouse that was not correctly charged to my customer’s credit card.

“There’s no way she “admitted” that she took the blouse, because she didn’t. This story seems to be more about a local store trading in the name of a celebrity than anything else.”

Cherry will appear in court in Lancaster, Pennsylvania on March 1 for a preliminary hearing in the case.
