The road to Prague lay ahead for West Ham when David Moyes’s men drew favorably with Belgian side Gent in the Europa Conference League quarter-finals.
For older fans, it brought back memories of the Hammers’ 1964-65 European Cup Winners’ Cup run, which began with a two-legged draw against Gent.
The English team won 2-1 before Bobby Moore, Geoff Hurst and company lifted the trophy.
Moyes hopes it bodes well in his goal of reaching this year’s final in the Czech capital.
If West Ham beat Gent, who sit fifth in the Belgian First Division, they will face either Anderlecht or AZ Alkmaar in the semi-finals.

David Moyes hopes it bodes well as they aim to reach this year’s final in Prague.
“You never know with football,” Moyes said when asked if he was the bookies’ favourite. It would never be presumptuous to think that this is the case because we need to improve. I need to get closer to our levels.
West Ham, winners of their 10 European games this season, travel to Ghent on Thursday 13 April before facing the all-important second leg at home the following week.
“We’ve had two quarter-finals in the last two years in Europe,” added Moyes.
‘We’ve had some great trips with the fans. We have played in some brilliant stadiums. It has been great for the club. We have enjoyed it very much.
