Ron DeSantis has caused confusion with a short video that many see as his first official presidential run clip, but criticism followed over the use of a British narrator.
One Twitter user accused Florida’s governor of “globalism,” while another said the US was “fighting a war to keep” [Britain] from our politics.’
Some criticized DeSantis for announcing his candidacy on Twitter — even though the short clip isn’t the official announcement, but more of a preview of what’s to come later Wednesday night.
Twitter CEO Elon Musk will be speaking on the social media’s Twitter Spaces feature, where DeSantis will confirm that he is running in the 2024 Republican presidential primary.
It comes after the governor filed paperwork to bid for the White House earlier on Wednesday.

Florida’s first lady Casey DeSantis posted a 30-second clip to Twitter on Tuesday showing an image of her husband getting ready to take the stage.
A narrator with a British accent begins to speak and says, ‘They call it faith because in the dark you can see that brighter future. A belief that our best days are still ahead of us.”
But is it worth the struggle? Do I have the courage? Is it worth the sacrifice?’ the narrator asks as the video of DeSantis shows him walking out from behind the stage. America has been worth it. Each. Single. Time.’
Casey DeSantis’ tweet with the video had her repeat the last line. The governor retweeted his wife’s message.
A user named Florida Chris, who has 27,500 followers, tweeted, “Why does Ron Desantis’ launch video have a British voiceover? didn’t we go to war to keep them out of our politics?’
“Why does the DeSantis launch video show a man speaking with a British accent?” another user wondered.
A third, named Shawn Phillips, tweeted, “RE: Ronny #DeSantis big Twit announcement… I think anyone who believes he’s some sort of ‘America 1st’ nationalist DO pay close attention to his little drama video… note that he has a British narrator for it! How globalist of you Ronny.’

One user said the US has been fighting to keep the British ‘out of our politics’

Another accused the governor of being a “globalist.”

Before posting the video on Tuesday, Casey also posted a link to the Fox News article, citing sources who said the governor would launch his campaign on Wednesday.
She wrote, “Great as true…,” accompanied by a smiley emoji.
After filing the paperwork on Wednesday, DeSantis will announce his run on Twitter Spaces with Elon Musk. Then he will launch an official first campaign video and will do a U-turn next week by states with early primaries.
