Gun gang murdered man in his 20s in ‘targeted and vicious’ machete attack that police say was caught on CCTV

A murder investigation has been launched after a man was brutally attacked by an armed gang in Walsall town centre.
West Midlands Police said the victim, who was in his 20s, was “attacked by a group of men with guns” around 1:20am today.
The victim, whose name has not been released, was taken to hospital but was pronounced dead just before 3 a.m.
Much of the city center remains on lockdown as officers conduct a fingertip search.

Detective Inspector Laura Harrison, who led the investigation, said: ‘It is still very early days in the investigation, but this appears to be a targeted and vicious attack involving a group of men with guns.
“We support the victim’s family during this terrible time and are working hard to identify those responsible.
“We have already recovered the cameras and are continuing to work on site today.”
A Section 60 warrant has been put in place, giving police the power to stop and search people without the need for specific grounds.

Those powers will be used throughout Walsall all day long.
Inspector Jon-Paul Kyffin of Walsall Police said: ‘We will have additional officers in Walsall town center today to provide reassurance.
“I would ask people planning to travel to Walsall town center to think about their journey today as the area around the High Street crime scene has been closed off while we investigate.”
